It is my pleasure to present the “50 Indy Black SuperHeroes” that you should that should know. Compiled courtesy of “World of Black Heroes”; which is a website dedicated to following the portrayal of Black heroes; Black here is a term loosely being used to refer to the racial group of humans with dark skin colour, to categorize a number of diverse populations into one common group. This list includes African American characters, characters of sub-Saharan African descent, Australian indigenous people, dark skinned Latinos or populations characterized by dark skin colour (a definition that also includes certain populations in Oceania, Southeast Asia, southern South Asia, and the southern Middle East). World of Black Heroes will bring you everything on these characters in comics, movies, on TV, books and the people who bring them to you, the voracious comic readers and fans!!! Indy/Independent in this case will be used to signify not associated with or connected to the big three: Marvel, DC and Image Comics.

3 of my favourite comic titles that I have read and high recommend from Africa made it into the list, one from South Africa(39th on the list) and 2 from Nigeria (47thand 48th on the list…yippee...Am waving the green and white flag for my home country!!!). Autodesk MeetUp #2 Nigeria

Promo Flyer for the Event
Photo Credit: Autodesk User Community

This event which took place on Saturday, 5th of September 2015 was a follow-up to the 1stCG MeetUp I attended earlier this year which I blogged about previously. For the readers who did not get to read that article. Catch Up Here
Unlike the 1st event; this MeetUp was dedicated solely to the AEC Industry (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) which I happen to be part of. There were in attendance; construction professionals ranging from architects, civil engineers, builders to quantity surveyors.
Guest Speakers were Vivien Yun(South African based architect), Rupert Conradie (Technical Sales Consultant) and Sampie Goosen(a trained civil engineer and AutodeskCertified Instructor for Revit Architecture and Structure). Each speaker made their presentations via video conferencing on the online of Team Viewer.
Speakers reviewed various Autodesk software packages;
*Vivien took attendees through her workflow in Revit Architecture and customised profiles for architecture.
*Rupert and Sampie collectively gave their own presentation on the new entrant into the market Autodesk Advanced Steel; a 3D modelling software for steel detailing. Advance Steel detailing software helps accelerate design, steel detailing, steel fabrication, and steel construction—built on the familiar AutoCAD platform. It also easily connects Revit models to Advance Steel for detailing and fabrication. It is not an analysis tool but really for drawing creation and specification.

The event took place at the prestigious Lagos Oriental Hotel, Lekki Phase 1 in Lagos State within their Function Room 1. I got to know about last minute via a Facebook group for creative people, 3D Nigeria’s admin Mr. Dele Royce, who is a civil engineer by discipline, BIM Expert and Head Multimedia Designer at Visual Multimedia Studio Limited. I scooped the 2nd to the last ticket to the event luckily at the dying hour on Eventbrite.
The event was hosted again by Ideate Technologies and the Autodesk User Communitywhich is a user community for African designers, creators, visionaries and world changers. The host was the amiable Dolapo Ojelabi, an architect by discipline and an Application Engineer for Ideate Technologies also, a Pan-African IT company with presence in over 36 countries across the continent including Nigeria. The company also happens to be the sole Autodesk Authorised Reseller for the region with a Value Added Reseller Status. Meetups of this kind are continuously being scheduled to take place across other locations within Africa.
